Did you ever have a pen pal? I did, but sadly I don't remember anything about her now. I have to admit that I’m a sucker for good, old-fashioned letter writing. I keep a constant stock of correspondence materials at the ready. I love picking up fabulous paper goods and saving them for just the right occasion. I even have wax seals for envelopes! I relish birthdays as an excuse to send cards and thanks to my mother, I'm pretty good at staying on top of the thank you cards.
I love being able to do fun things that don't cost a lot of money! Especially if it involves sending and receiving mail from another country. I just sent my first postcard with Postcrossing. The goal of Postcrossing is to allow people to receive postcards from all over the world! I signed up, bought a post card, received an address in Finland and sent it on its way. Today I got confirmation that it arrived at its destination. My Kentucky postcard traveled 4,620 miles in 8 days! Mia, the woman who received my postcard sent me the following note:
Hello Andrea. Thanks so much for your lovely card, i love it very much. Happy postcrossing.Regards from Finland, Mia
So now that I've been proven as a reliable sender, I should be getting a postcard soon. I'm anxious to see where it travels from! I don't know how often I'll keep up with this, but let me tell you, there are some serious postcrossers out there. They have regular meetings to compare postcards, a Flickr postcard group and this couple even fell in love after sending a postcard to each other! More power to 'em!I'll let you know when I get my first postcard!
